Carol Leslie Wineck

Carol Leslie Peterson was born in Astoria, Oregon on December 14, 1942, coming home onChristmas day as their "Christmas Carol." In 1951 Carol’s father Lester moved the family fromAstoria, Oregon to Anchorage, Alaska. Lester was a builder, and her mother DeLoris was anartist and painter. She and her siblings attended school in Anchorage where Carol met WalterWineck. Carol was married to Walter Wineck on October 21, 1961. They were married fornearly 50 years as Walter passed away in 2011, less than a month before their anniversary.They raised two children together in their home in Spenard. Aside from living in Anchorage, shewould spend stretches of time at their family cabin on Big Lake built by her father in 1962. Thereshe tended to her garden and spent time with her family, and of course her dogs. Carol enjoyedgardening and expressing her creativity through her artwork. She was a potter, a painter, astained-glass artist, a baker, and a devoted and endlessly generous mother, grandmother, andfriend. Her sense of humor anchored us to her and is something her family will cherish forever.She had the proclivity to take care of others before herself, a generous and thoughtful soul.Carol was supported by Ancora Hospice in her home and passed away on August 29, 2024,surrounded by her family.She is preceded in death by, her brother, Kenneth Petersen of Shell Lake, Alaska, her sister,Marge Wadsworth of Portland, Oregon, her husband, Walter Wineck, and her parents Lesterand Deloris Petersen of Waldport, Oregon.She is survived by her dog Mitzi, son Chris Wineck of Anchorage, Alaska, grand-daughterAmber Stewart, and her three great-grandchildren of Oelwein, Iowa; her daughter DeniseShelton, son-in-law Jerry Shelton and grand-daughters, Emma Shelton and Mo Shelton ofAnchorage, Alaska.
