Harry Edward Kadel
January 7th, 1936 - November 6th, 2016
January 7th, 1936 - November 6th, 2016
Harry Edward Kadel, 80, of Anchorage, Alaska, departed the evening of November 6th, 2016. He died peacefully at home with family at his side, of a heart condition. Born January 7th, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, Harry served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 with an honorable discharge. As a single man, Harry motorcycled, worked to manufacture early Airstream trailers, and travelled with the Wally Byam Caravan. In 1958, Harry married Janis Powers of Indian Lake, Ohio. Working for Standard Oil of Ohio, Harry and Janis started their family in nearby Wapakoneta. Moving to Alaska during the summer of 1979, Harry brought the family north to a new home in Chugiak. As a machinist for Standard Oil and later British Petroleum on the North Slope, Harry retired after 30 years in 1999. Harry then became involved in black powder loading with McKinley Mountain Men, woodworking, and a local rifle range. Most of all Harry loved fishing on the Kenai River and spent summers at Kenai Riverbed Resort. Known for his sense of humor and positive attitude, always helping neighbors, Harry amassed a wealth of friends from all walks of life. Harry is survived by Janis, his wife of 58 years and children; Dan Kadel and spouse Diane (Fuerst), Joey Kadel and spouse Barbara (Allen), Darren Kadel and Polly (Tritt), and Terry Kadel; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at a later date. Ashes are to be scattered in the Kenai River and Prince William Sound.
