Michael Sean Dixon

October 15th, 1967 - August 18th, 2016

October 15th, 1967 - August 18th, 2016

On the evening of August 18, 2016, Michael "Mike" Sean Dixon passed away peacefully at Providence Alaska Medical Center from complications related to diabetes, in the presence and comfort of his mother. Michael was born on October 15, 1967 in Downey, California. He was the first of two children, and only son of Ruth A. Pettit. Mike grew up in Southern California, where he lived most of the time with his grandparents in Lake Elsinore. In his youth he played for the Olympian Cadet Baton and Drum Corp, where he played the drum during parades. Mike could play the drum by ear at a very early age. He later taught drum lessons to others. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards and stamps, and playing marbles in his younger years. Mike spent a lot of time with his cousins and family after he moved to Choudrant, Lousiana, closer to extended family. He loved rock bands and rock music, including Motley Crue, Van Halen and Metallica. In the early 80's he was part of the Boys Club where he was a counselor, even winning Counselor of the Year. He was a great cook, loved to grill, and could make the best gumbo! Mike's family has many lasting memories of him, including the time he shot his bow and arrow over the house, which landed right through the hood of his family's brand new car. He loved to tease his little sister, Tammy, and they would argue frequently, but they both loved each other very much. Mike was loved by many cousins as well. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Mike was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Jim Woodall, his uncle David Woodall, and Grandmother, Lurline Woodall. He is survived by his mother, Ruth A. Pettit (Palmer, AK), his sister, Tammy Ellis (Layton, UT), and his uncle William Woodall and aunt Ruth Williams of Oceanside, CA as well as other extended relatives scattered across the United States.
