Patricia Tennity

Patricia "Trish" Tennity passed away at 70 from ovarian cancer at her home in Anchorage on August 4, 2013 surrounded by family. Trish was born on March 18, 1943 in Rochester, New York and spent most of her younger years growing up with her family in San Diego, California. After graduating from Clairemont High School in 1961, she joined the Woman's Army Corps to serve her country. After her time in the WAC, she moved back to California to raise her family. In 1976, Trish moved with her two daughters to Alaska to start a new life. She returned to California in 1989 to be near her beloved ocean and her parents. At the request of her daughters, she returned to Anchorage in 2009. Trish was an avid supporter of civil and woman's rights. She spent many years fighting for justice for all individuals. This passion carried over to her professional career as she has worked with homeless youth, created the Early Childhood Learning Institute, and worked for many years as a victims advocate for the Elder Abuse Unit of the San Diego District Attorney's office. Trish's other passions included reading, politics, watching Masterpiece Theater while eating popcorn, swimming with "The Ladies" at the YMCA, and volunteering at the local VA. Trish is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Laura and Larry Nevada; Lisa and Anthony Cruz; grandchildren, Tana Skye Nevada, Tony Cruz and his wife Sarah, and Tyler Cruz all of Anchorage; sisters, Pauline Hemphill of Arizona, and Bobbie Woolley and her husband Doug of Oregon; and many nephews and nieces. Her parents, Louis and Hazel Tennity, precede her in death. A private memorial will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Cremation Society of Alaska.
