February 21st, 1925 - February 17th, 2016

February 21st, 1925 - February 17th, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce husband and father Robert "Bud" Earle Lovdahl, 90 years young, passed peacefully on February 17th at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, AK with family by his side. He was born on February 21, 1925 in Brainerd, MN. As a child he lived in Crosby, MN and moved to Minneapolis, MN with his family before entering Jr. High. He graduated in January 1943 from West High School Minneapolis, MN. In the summer of 1942 Bud and Millie met and became smitten with each other. They dated until he went to basic training and flight school in 1943. He served from 1944 to 1946 in the Airforce as a B-24 bomber pilot. After peace was declared and he came home they picked up where they left off. Rumor has it that Bud sent Millie an engagement and wedding ring in the mail before his return (he didn't want her to get away). They were married August 31, 1947 and had their honey moon in Ely, MN at a cabin they rented on Moose Lake. Bud went to the University of Minnesota to obtain his Electrical Engineering Degree graduating in 3.5 years to get the jump on the job market. His first job as an electrical engineer was with Walter Butler Architectural, then he worked for the Arms plant in New Brighton, MN before landing a job with Ellerbe Architectural firm in St. Paul, MN. In 1973 Ellerbe was opening an office in Anchorage, AK and he decided to take a chance and move his family to Alaska for two years. Once they moved to Alaska they never wanted to live anywhere else. Bud will be greatly missed by all, especially his family. Bud was preceded in death by his parents Earle & Maude Lovdahl, Sister Margie Hackhove, Son-in-law Dennis Leong, Grandson Chad Hansen. Bud will be remembered by his loving wife of 68 years Mildred; daughters Karen Leong, Pearl City HI, Renee (Roger) Hansen, Forest Lake MN, Donna Jo Morgan, Delta Junction AK; sons Robert Lovdahl, Delta Junction AK, William (Beth) Lovdahl, St. Cloud MN, John (Trina) Lovdahl, Anchorage AK; Grandsons Jeremy, Eric, Shawn, Daniel, Shane, Jason, Cole; Granddaughters Kalena, Kaulana, Brittney, Karissa; Great Grandchildren Lydia, Ava, Alexandra, Cora, Kenneth, Averie, Makaio, Charlotte; nieces Phyllis and Cynthia. A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's United Methodist church, 1801 O'Malley Road in Anchorage at 11:00 am Thursday, March 10th, 2016. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you give to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1801 O'Malley Road, Anchorage, AK 99507 or to a charity of your choice in his name.
