William Albert Caswell Age, 87 In February 2017 Bill Caswell peacefully passed away while his wife was holding his hand in Wasilla, Alaska. He struggled with dementia for several years. He was born in Endicott, New York in 1929 and married the love of his life Dawn in 1952. Bill served his country in the US Army on the front lines of the Korean War. He first visited Alaska on his way home from the Korean War and dreamed of Alaska for many years. He and his wife vacationed in Alaska fishing the summers of 1975 and 1976. Being hooked on the Alaskan lifestyle they moved from Pennsylvania to Wasilla, Alaska in 1977. In Pennsylvania Bill was a member of the Teamsters Union working in the trucking industry and was a carpenter. In Wasilla he was employed as a school bus driver entertaining the children and making their day brighter. He drove many of the Matanuska Valley sports teams to away-games. Bill was an avid fisherman, caribou hunter, and rock collector. He and his wife traveled the state in their camper from the Alaska Highway to Prudhoe Bay. They flew to Barrow, the Pribilof Islands, and many remote locations inside Alaska. They caught halibut and king crab in Kodiak. He built his sturdy home in Wasilla and loved his Alaskan life. As a Master Gardner, Bill taught gardening and helped valley gardeners to produce better results. He raised enough vegetables each year to feed his family and friends. He was known for his delicious potatoes and provided seed potatoes to the valley gardeners for many years. He is survived by his loving wife Dawn of 64 years of marriage, his son Ron and wife Judy Caswell from Titusville Florida, his sister Joan and nephew Jerry of Chenango Forks, New York, sister-in-law Jean and her sons Randy and Dominick Caswell, and cousins Nancy Fenstemacher and Dick Kenner. A private memorial will be held. For further information, please contact his son Ron Caswell who is visiting in Alaska at 321-427-3463. Bill was passionate about gardening and fishing and loved to share his passion. In lieu of flowers, please help a child plant a garden, or take a child fishing.
