19 janvier 1936 - 23 novembre 2016

Walter passed away on November 23, 2016. He was born in Zoboles, in the Czech Republic, on January 19, 1936 to Izador and Justina Moritz. He lived in the Czech Republic until he was nine, and then his family lost their farm to the Russians after World War II. His family moved to Ingolstadt, Germany by Train. He stayed there only a couple of years, and moved to the Bavarian Mountains to find work on a farm. His younger brother joined him, married, and still lives there. After that, he went to work for the Holland America Cruise Line, and spent a year sailing between Holland and New York. He met a friend in New York, and they travelled to Australia and worked for a construction company for 5 years. About this time, his older brother, Theodore had immigrated to New York, and was married and had children. Walter decided he didn't care for New York City, and asked for the furthest place, but still in the United States, either Alaska or Hawaii. Coming out of Alaska one of the many times, he met his wife, Janet, in Seattle. In 1970, Boeing had a big setback, and he was the last person in Seattle to turn out the lights. He left Seattle, and came back to Alaska for employment. In 1971, he sent money to Janet. She drove his car, along with 3 boys, and a dog to Alaska. He started Moritz Painting in 1973, a successful union painting contracting business, and ran it until he retired in 2001. Alaska has been a wonderful adventure. They travelled extensively over the years. They are long time members of St. Mark Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 45 years. Janet. He is also survived by his sons, Rick McGuire of Seattle, Daniel McGuire, and Michael(son) of Seattle, and Mike McGuire, with Fran(wife), and Makena, Aubrey, and Sarah of Anchorage. He is also survived by Eileen and Charles Foulds of New York, Theodore Moritz (brother), Lisa, Lynn, and Rick Moritz of New York, and Helmut (brother) and Lani Moritz of Munich, Germany. A celebration of life for Walter will be held 1 pm Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 3230 Lake Otis Parkway, Anchorage, Alaska. Donations can be made in memory of Walter to St. Mark Lutheran Church
