Charles Eugene Ingersoll
November 14th, 1926 - October 9th, 2020
November 14th, 1926 - October 9th, 2020
Charles Ingersoll, a longtime Alaskan, passed away on Oct. 9, 2020. Charlie was born in 1926, on a farm outside Boonville, N.Y., to Raymond and Kathleen Ingersoll.
When Charlie turned 17, he joined the Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Boonville for a short time and then moved to Alaska. That year his first job was setting pins in the only bowling alley in town. He also drove truck for the City of Anchorage and was a volunteer fireman. He went to work for the Alaska Railroad in late 1946 and retired in 1982 as a conductor.
He married Patricia Cranson in Cordova, Alaska, in 1951. After retirement he and Patricia traveled in their trailer throughout the United States and Canada. They also did some traveling outside the U.S.
During his years in Anchorage, Charlie was involved in Anchorage Little League, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman Union Board, Board of Directors for the Anchorage Railroad Credit Union, Anchorage Elks Lodge 1351, Alaska State Elks and the Pioneers of Alaska Anchorage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; daughter-in-law, Donna Neidhold Ingersoll; and grandson, Jason Gonzalez Ingersoll.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Ingersoll Gray of Anchorage; his sons, James Ingersoll of Wasilla, Alaska, and Michel Ingersoll of Cleveland, S.C.; along with seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
As requested, there will be no ceremony and his ashes will be spread in Cook Inlet at Deep Creek where, for many years, he loved to fish.
