Richard A Anderson

Richard Anderson, 78, took his last and best journey on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018. Born in Enderlin, N.D., he had made his home in Anchorage, Alaska, since 1963. For the last six months he had been in hospice care at Rose's Care Assisted Living Home. The second of eight children, his passions were family and friends. As a man of many talents and interests, you may have encountered him through his 25 years in supply and cooking at the mess hall at the Air National Guard at Kulis, selling Fur Rendezvous pins, guiding on the Kvichak River, breeding and showing German shepherds, dancing the polka at St. Patrick's with Marge Ford and the Polka Chips, bartending at Sons of Norway, fishing, making and eating akutaq, participating in Desert Storm, taking pictures at every occasion, cleaning at Gateway School and Learning Center, waiting on you at Dino's Pizza, knitting Canadian sweaters, teaching Bunka embroidery, fashioning silk flowers for weddings and special occasions, making lefse and cinnamon rolls, hosting a Christmas Eve open house, gathering at retiree lunches at the BarBQ Pit, attending Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and his great greeting "hello, hello, what's going on?" His ashes will be spread over his favorite place, Igiugig, on the Kvichak River. Those left to carry on his memory are his siblings, David (Marilyn), Norman (Betty) and Joy of Anchorage, and Connie (Gary) Marier, Julie, Hal (Pat) of North Dakota; his nephews and nieces; and friends too numerous to count. Services with military rites will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8427 Jewel Lake Road in Anchorage; 907-243-2301.
