12 de mayo de 1935 - 14 de agosto de 2020

Carol Ann McGaw Warren (85) passed away on August 14, 2020, at her home in Chugiak, Alaska. Carol was born May 12, 1935, at her grandmothers home in Lisman, Kentucky, to Charles David and Evelyn Baker McGaw. She spent her childhood and teen years on the family farm and enjoyed the company of cousins and friends in that small community. She attended Murray State University where she met and married William Allen (Bill) Warren in 1955. They had two children. During her years in Murray, Kentucky, Carol co-owned an art gallery, gift, and frame shop near the college campus. From classes taken at MSU and from the interaction with artists involved with The Gallery, Carols love of art developed. Later she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where she worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the University of Tennessee med school. Carol was actively involved in creating a new department at UT and found that work to be exhilarating. Many of her colleagues there became close friends. She also went back to college and graduated from Memphis State University with a BFA in sculpture. Carol had visited her daughters family in Alaska often since the late 1980s, which sparked her desire to move to Alaska in 2011. She found a home at the Chugiak Eagle River Senior Center in 2012, where she served terms as President and Vice President of the resident council. She especially enjoyed weekly bridge games, writing and singing groups, and the art class which grew into her passion. Some of her happiest times were spent at painting retreats and art classes with her newfound community of friends. Carol never lost her Southern charm or her love of social gatherings and she soon knew more people in Chugiak than her daughter who had lived in Alaska for decades. She remained active and optimistic even through chemo and radiation treatments for the cancer that ultimately ended her life. Carol is survived by her brother Charles D. (Wanda) McGaw, daughter Lisa (Rick) Sinnott and son Allen Kirk (Ioana) Warren, grandchildren Aiden, Ecaterina and Chirana Warren, Erin (Tucker) Remley and Meghan (Chris Anderson) Sinnott, and five great grandchildren. Special thanks to Providence Hospice staff for your care and support of Carol and her family during the last 2 months of her life, and to her kindred spirit, nurse Mary at Katmai Oncology. No services are planned at this time. We encourage family and friends to share thoughts and memories of Carol on the Cremation Society of Alaska website (alaskacremation.com). Donations in Carols memory may be made to Alaska Public Media, 3877 University Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99508, or the Valley Fine Arts Association, P.O. Box 671521, Chugiak, Alaska 99567.
