Cordice Lee Simmons

Cordice L. Simmons of Anchorage, Alaska departed this life on June 17, 2022, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Services will be held at 1pm on July 9th at CME Church, 3600 Macinnes St., Anchorage. Cordice was born November 3, 1950, in Long Beach County, California to the late Clifton and Juanita Simmons. He was the third born to this union. Growing up, Cordice loved being around family. He learned how to master barbequing from his dad, which he took great pride in doing. Cordice was baptized at an early age at Zion Temple Baptist Church in Compton, California. He was a faithful member of First Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Anchorage and Citizens of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Compton, California. He served in the Men’s choir, Lay Ministry, Men’s Ministry, and wherever else God called him to do. In 1975 he moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska where he remained for 47 years. Cordice was employed with the Anchorage School District for 28 years, from 1976 to 2004. During his retirement, Cordice enjoyed traveling to California to spend time with his parents, family, and friends as well as cruising. Cordice’s mother Juanita, dad Clifton, brother Eugene, and daughter Danielle preceded him in death. Cordice leaves behind his wife Phylia Simmons, daughter Sherice Massey (Tyrone); sons Deon Simmons (Shaneika) and Damon Grundy; sister Devora Heads-Smith; brother Lynwood Queen; grandsons Shaun Sosa (Erin), Shaquelle Massey, Dondre’ Massey and Dailen Grundy; granddaughters Abigail Simmons, Alison Simmons and Camille Grundy; great-grandchildren Braya Sosa, Isaac Sosa, Jayvion Massey and Jesse Sosa; great-nephew Kai’ell, who affectionately called him Pa Pu; uncle Elzie Williams and Aunt Dorothy Williams; nieces Devonna Heads, Shion Queen, Marisa Smith; nephew Jonathan Smith; Godson Cedric Morgan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
