Michael Robert Sword

Long time Girdwood resident Michael Sword passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center on November 9, 2020 at the age of 67. Michael was born in Jamestown, NY. After graduating from Chautauqua High School, he headed west, living in Montana for a time before moving to Alaska in 1976. Michael was an excellent carpenter and woodworker. Throughout his 30+ year career, he worked on countless fine homes in Girdwood and Anchorage, including designing and building the family home where his wife, Arlene, still resides. Michael was a jack of all trades whos work included framing, finished carpentry, custom cabinetry and furniture, dry wall and tile and more. Michael was friendly, kind, generous, had a quick wit, and told hilarious stories. He was passionate about the game of golf and his beloved Buffalo Bills football team. Michael is survived by his wife Arlene Weber Sword, son Jeffrey, daughter Natalie, sister Betsy Sword Coleman, and brother Peter Sword. He was preceded in death by his parents Erick and Lois Sword.
