Richard Wilson

In memory of Richard Wilson, who left us on October 11, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on April 12, 1962 at Ernest Harmon AFB, Newfoundland, Canada. As an Air Force Dependent, he traveled as far south as San Antonio, Texas and North to Goose air Base, Labrador, Canada. He accompanied the family to Anchorage via an assignment to Elmendorf AFB in June 1974. He attended West High School until May 1979, when the family was reassigned to Lowry AFB, Colorado. He attended and graduated from George Washington High School in 1980. Rick was fortunate to meet and become employed by the Club’s Culinary Manager. After a couple of years Rick was promoted to Night Chef Duties. He returned to Anchorage in the fall of 1982 and was employed at the Westcoast Inn, Doubledays and Dukes. In 1991, Rick entered state employment at McLaughlin Youth Center as a Food Service Worker, in addition he was the “Go to Guy” for union issues. You never doubted where you stood with Rick, he possessed a smile and demeanor that could ease levels of tension. Rick was an avid Hockey Fan. In his opinion, Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens was his favorite and he never hesitated to reaffirm that belief. He loved dogs, especially his two Bichon’s, Snowflake and Frosty. He was an excellent angler and enjoyed tying flies and stated “it’s great therapy”. Rick willingly shared his bounty. Rick requested there be no formal burial services. A Remembrance Service was held at the Bearpaw Restaurant in October 2020. Rick is survived by his wife, Anita; son, Steven; daughter, Amanda Mitchell (Dan); father, Frank; brothers, Robert and Russell; sister, Sandra Dobbins. Kudos to Father Andy, Holy Family Cathedral for Home Visitation and Providence Hospice staff for their Professional and Attentive Care.
