Gary was born December 31, 1982 in Tucson, Arizona. He passed away July 9, 2024 in Wasilla, Alaska A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held Sundfay July 21, 2024 at the Wasilla VFW Post 9365, 301 E LakeView Ave Wasilla. Survived by: children; Harley, Jason, Faith & Reagan (mother, Desiree Pope), parents; Robert Pickering and Olga Pickering, siblings; Cloe Yeager (husband Trevor, child, Haven), Monica Gutierrz (preceded in death). And, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Work family at Providence BioMed, Anchorage, AK. Gary you are so deeply loved by so many. We will all celebrate you with the same gusto with which you lived your life. You served you Country with Honor. Awards: Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal Campaign Star (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) & Combat Action Badge. Amazing father, son, and friend to all he met. Those who knew him & loved him are better for it.

I knew him as Pickering, the other half to me of our Team Pickle. For a brief time, we were battle buddies. Gary was new to 1st Platoon, C Troop, and he was always kind and willing to push himself. We both kinda sucked at running, so we encouraged each other and became fast friends - and better runners. We were on a lot of the same details together and joked all the time. We had each other's backs, as it was with all of 1st Platoon. I am saddened by his loss, but honored to have known him. RIP, Pick. God rest your soul, and save me a spot at Fiddler's Green.

Eric Sheehan

I served with him in 1st platoon, C Troop, 4/14 Cav. He was a great man and I am deeply saddened of hearing of this. My thoughts are with the family...
