August 21st, 1939 - July 21st, 2022

Longtime Alaskan and homesteading matriarch Kathleen Ann Traxinger, 82, passed away at home with a rosary in hand surrounded by love. Kathleen was born on Aug. 21, 1939, in Houston, Texas. Kathleen, aka Mamma Trax, came to Alaska in 1957, met her Honey Larry Traxinger and were engaged in 10 days, which lead to a 56-year marriage full of adventure, love, family and service to her church and community. Kathleen's greatest achievements were raising her nine children and earning her degree in criminal justice. Kathleen was absolute in her love for Larry, her nine children and extended family. Kathleen, lovingly referred to by her husband as his "Little Yellow Rose of Texas," was a homesteader with Larry starting their life off together with a log cabin establishing the Traxinger Homestead in 1958. Kathleen referred to herself as Momnonus - mother of nine - and volunteered her time as a youth minister affecting many young people in our community. Kathleen's greatest moments were when she was with her family cooking, sewing, writing and giving a lesson in cribbage, Scrabble and marbles to her loved ones. She loved her husband, her children, grandbabies, great-grandbabies, her sister Rosemarie and all her nieces and nephews that lovingly referred to her as Auntie. Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Joseph Traxinger; parents, Julius and Rosalie Kubala; brothers, Sonny and Andrew Kubala; and sisters, Valeria Loicana and Rosemarie Maresh. Kathleen is survived by her nine children, in birth order with spouses, Kitty (James) Mullican, Sonny Traxinger (Diane Maples), Constance (Michael) Moustakis, Caren McIntire, Shirley (Brian) Saupe, Sam (Kamal) Traxinger, John Traxinger, Dan (Nicki) Traxinger, Theresa Whitehurst and fiance Gerry Day; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Leslie Mullican, Josiah, Joshua and Diana Mullican, Melinda, Michael and Heather Moustakis, Melaina, Ashley and Cory Kelly, Deacon, Sophia, Olivia, Morgan, Megan, Emily; and beloved great-grandchildren, Wesley, Silas, Hunter, Noah, Olivia, Micah, Oliver. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Parish, 2627 Lore Road in Anchorage, on Aug. 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. Reception immediately following in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to St. Theresa's Youth Camp.
