Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend,Larry McAllister, also known in the oilfield of Alaska and in Alaskan circlesas "Mac," passed away peacefully on 5/24/2024. Mac’s passing at theProvidence Hospital in Anchorage was due to several age-relatedcomplications.Mac was born in Glasgow, Montana but lived the majority of his earlyyears in Sinclair, Wyoming where he met his beloved wife, Mary McAllister.Mac and Mary were wed in 1960 and had two daughters, Kelley Tottenand Colleen McAllister. Together, they spent the majority of their familytime at Beaver Lake, playing in the great outdoors of the Alaskawonderland. Mac and his family built lifelong memories waterskiing, cross-country skiing, boating, kayaking, and relaxing at their Beaver Lake cabinand property. They all were avid alpine skiers, and spent treasured familytime together on the slopes. Tragically, Mary lost her battle with systemiclupus in January of 1977.Mac was a natural athlete. He grew up hunting and fishing, and excelled inthe sports of football, basketball and track. Mac attended Utah StateUniversity on a football scholarship. His high school rough-necking yearsin the Wyoming oilfields led him to his college major in Geology. In 1966Mac and Mary transferred to Anchorage, Alaska with Conoco OilCompany where Mac worked tirelessly as a Geophysicist. He eventuallyshifted his career to Unocal Oil Company where he retired as a DrillingSuperintendent in 2003. Mac continued to consult in the oilfield for manyyears beyond retirement, working in various areas of the world includingHolland, Canada, Colorado, Wyoming and California.Mac was passionate for alpine skiing, snow machining and subsistencesalmon fishing at his beloved Lake Clark Property which he owned for 40years. The majority of Mac’s energy was expended at Lake Clark as it trulyserved as his refuge. Mac worked diligently to keep this treasuredsanctuary until he could no longer maintain the property which he sold in2021.Mac married Sheria McAllister of Anchorage, Alaska and as the years passed, they remained friends up until the time of his passing.
Mac was known for his sense of humor, meticulous knowledge of how todrill an oil well "Alaska-style," and his generosity of spirit. Anyone whoknew Mac understood his lust for life and outdoor living. Mac adoredgetting outside in the weather to do whatever there was to do … whether itwas a sport, a hobby, a building project, fishing or work. Mac is certainly an"old sourdough" in Alaskan terms and has now passed on to the nextrealm, whatever he decides that to be.Mac is survived by his two daughters Kelley Totten (Oklahoma), ColleenMcAllister (Colorado), Kelley’s husband Myles Totten, along with Mac’sgrandchildren, Colton Guard, Calley Guard, and Kelsey Guard (Kelley ’schildren) and Matt Townsley and Jake Townsley (Colleen’s children).
