August 17th, 1943 - April 11th, 2016

Donald Wesley Powell, Sr., 72 passed away April 11, 2016 at his home in Anchorage. Services will be held 2 p.m. April 30, 2016 at the Mountain View Lions Den, 501 North Pine St. Anchorage. Donald was born August 17, 1943 in Custer, South Dakota. He graduated from Custer High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy. Donald married Linda Blakeley on December 27, 1966. He was blessed to be married for 45 years to his soul mate and best friend. The family moved to Anchorage in 1976 where Donald worked many years in welding and mechanics. He enjoyed golf. His family wrote: "Don was the true meaning of integrity. The best dad, papa, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. Don was a selfless man who adored his family both near and far. Nothing made him light up like a phone call from out-of-state relatives. He was a hard-working, prideful man that never gave up on his family. Through thick and thin, he would always say 'We will get through this as a family.' Don was a passionate golfer 'Even in the rain'. Don loved to dance, sing, bowl, and play a little poker. He will be missed daily by many." Don is survived by his son, Donald W. Powell, Jr and his wife, Pauline, Anchorage; his daughters, Roxanne and her husband, David Plant, Denver, CO and DeAnn Bacarella, Anchorage; grandchildren, Terrance Washington, Tyler Washington, Ashley Leleo, Donald Powell, III, all of Anchorage; and Crystal Oldham and her husband, Daniel of Spanaway, WA; grandson-in-law, Lashon Jackson, Anchorage; and great grandchildren, Austin Oldham, Spanaway, WA and Tyler Washington, Anchorage. Mr. Powell is preceded in death by his wife, Linda and one daughter, Dorinda Rice.
