Gary Allen Barnett
February 3rd, 1970 - December 25th, 2017
February 3rd, 1970 - December 25th, 2017
Gary Allen Barnett, 47, passed away on Dec. 25, 2017, in Alaska. He was born to Kenneth Barnett and Cheryl Keller of San Diego, Calif., on Feb. 3, 1970. Gary was anxious to be born and conquer the world. He came out kicking and, honestly, he never stopped. He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Keller of San Diego; his father, Kenneth (Donna) Barnett of San Diego; his sisters, Rochelle (Luke) Davis of Vienna, Va., and Rhiannon (Dan) Gardner of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and his brothers, John Morris, Travis Barnett and Troy Barnett, all of San Diego. He is also survived by his four beautiful nieces. Gary grew up in San Diego and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1997, where he fell in love with all that Alaska had to offer. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, golfing, snowmachining and motorcycles. Gary also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and South America. No matter where his adventures took him, Alaska was always the place Gary called home. Gary had excellent work ethic and was an incredibly hard worker. He was a member of the Alaska Teamsters Local 959 and the Alaska Laborers Local 341. He worked on the North Slope, Airport Road Project, Ground Zero Recovery Project and Anthrax Surveillance/Cleanup in Washington, D.C., in 2001. He also worked as a crane operator and worked on oil platforms off the coast of California. Gary had a charisma about him and a love for life and adventure that was infectious. He was a very handsome man, made friends easily and had a great sense of humor. He is loved and will be missed by many. A service was held at the Cathedral of Saint Thomas, Arlington, Va. A private celebration of his life will be held later this year in Alaska. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local Make-A-Wish Charity.
