Howard Oborn

November 26th, 1947 - January 30th, 2014

November 26th, 1947 - January 30th, 2014

On January 30, 2014 Howard Mahle Oborn or "Butchy" as his siblings called him, returned to his Heavenly Father. Howard was born on November 26, 1947 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Clermont A. and, Gwynne M. Oborn. He leaves behind two sisters, Corrie Lynne Player and Celestia A. Whitehead, and two brothers, C. Paxton Oborn and Charles "Chuck" Oborn, as well as 38 nieces and nephews and 120 grand nieces and nephews. Howard was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be missed not only by his family but by the caring people at Hope Community Resources. He was a happy, inquisitive person with a quick and often sly sense of humor. Howard came into the Oborn family as a foster child when he was four years old with significant physical and intellectual challenges. Being placed with Clermont and Gwynne and four siblings allowed Howard to make great strides. Within a short period of time he made great strides and was scampering around and getting into all sorts of mischief with his younger brother, Chuck.. Unfortunately, Clermont died in a plane crash in 1955 and Howard was then cared for through the Alaska social services system. A decade later he was reunited with his family and was officially adopted in 1977. For the past 17 years Howard has lived in Anchorage and Eagle River. He developed a wide circle of friends through his love of camping, music, animals and love of adventure. He and support staff Lynn Rotz shared a very special bond and spent over twelve years sharing adventures together. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bear Mountain ward chapel on Eagle River Road at Chandalar Street on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:00 am. Howard will be laid to rest beside his parents in Ogden, Utah. Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Alaska. Words of comfort can be shared at www.alaskacremation.com
