Joan Irene Truett, 79 of Palmer Alaska passed away on February 20,2025 at Mat-Su Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.  Joan was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.

Joan was born on November 8, 1945 to Virginia Mae Seely and James Harrison in Maryland. Joan was raised by her Grandparents Dorothy and Philip Niser.  During her lifetime Joan had many adventures, the first of which began when she left Maryland and made her way to Alaska to search for her father James.  Ultimately Alaska brought her the love of her life when she met Richard at a motorcycle shop in Fairbanks.  Together their adventures continued together when they were married on Jan 15, 1966, and were together for 43 ½ years having 2 children Linda and Daniel.  The happy couple first made their home in Ester, Alaska. Along the way they lived in Mckinley Park on the Toklat River, Suntrana, Usibelli and later settled in what is now Healy, Alaska. Joan and Richard raised their 2 children in Healy and enjoyed the Alaska life. Joan loved and enjoyed all the things Alaska had to offer fishing, boating, camping, bowling and of course motorcycles and always her Baltimore Orioles.  After her husband’s retirement they travelled and then made their home in Big Lake, Alaska.  After the death of her husband Joan continued to reside in their home in Big Lake, Alaska.  Joan often talked about her trips to the Senior Center and the baked goodies and dog treats that she would take down to the Alaska State Trooper’s in Big Lake showing her appreciation for Law Enforcement Officers.

She is survived by her daughter Linda and husband Brian Winner of Manteo, North Carolina, son Daniel and wife Beth Truett of Palmer, Alaska, four grandchildren Christian Winner (Linda and Brian), Bradley Truett, Haley and Tanner Brewster (Dan and Beth), sister Sharon Jaeke of Fairbanks, several nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her Husband Richard, her Mother Virginia, Father James, Grandmother Dorothy, Grandfather Phillip, Sister Mae, Brother Robert, numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Joan elected to be cremated, and the Cremation Society of Alaska is handling those arrangements. The family will hold a private service later when Joan’s ashes will be joined with her love Richard in the mountains of Healy along with her beloved dogs Puffy Anne and Lola Anne.  The family has asked in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to either the Mid-Valley Senior Center Big Lake, Alaska, or The Alaska State Trooper’s K-9 Unit in Big Lake or The Palmer Elks BPOE 1852 in memory of Richard and Joan Truett – joined in life and now reunited in death.
