Patrick Ryan Cashman

March 22nd, 1964 - April 18th, 2024

March 22nd, 1964 - April 18th, 2024

Patrick Ryan Cashman Sr. and his wife, Sheila Aber Cashman, passed away on April 18th, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska. Patrick was born on March 22, 1964 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Cashman and Valerie Cashman (Stockham). He was the youngest of five siblings. Patrick attended Judge Memorial High School, where he excelled as an athlete and led his football team to a state championship. After graduating in 1982, he enlisted in the Navy, where he finished top of his boot camp class and served in San Diego, California until 1986. During his time in the Navy, he earned an associate degree in business from American University. Patrick actively participated in a boxing league and enjoyed riding his motorcycle along the sunny highways of San Diego. Patrick and Sheila (Aber) met in 2006 at the end of the Homer Spit and shared a deep love for the outdoors, tennis, and countless inside jokes. They got married in 2013, and were blessed with four beloved fur children. Together, they built the Ravens Nest Spa, which they proudly owned and operated for over a decade. Through their hard work and dedication, the spa became a symbol of their success. He caught the travel bug from Sheila, and together they sought the warmth of sunny climates, and clear blue seas. They had a particular fondness for Mazatlan, Maui, and Florida. Sheila was a constant source of support for Patrick during his battle with Corticobasal Degeneration, a neurodegenerative illness he was diagnosed with in his late fifties. Patrick had a successful 40-year career in the food and beverage industry, working in hotels and restaurants. He was admired and respected for his dedication and commitment to service excellence. His ambition and natural leadership skills propelled his success, leading to management roles in hotels across Seattle, California, Salt Lake City, Nevada, and finally Alaska. In addition to his successful career and family life, Patrick also dedicated his time and energy to serving on the board for the Alaska Zoo. In 1990, Patrick met and later married Jessie Cashman (Mejia). Together they had three children: Kaitlin, Lauren, and Patrick Jr. Patrick Sr. was a devoted father who took immense pride in every accomplishment of his children. His love for the outdoors and his dream of living in Alaska led him and Jessie to move to Skagway in 1992. Although their time in Skagway was brief, Patrick fell in love with Alaska's natural beauty and made a promise to return. In 1998, Patrick was recruited to operate a fish processing business in Alaska, and he and his family settled in Homer, Alaska. Patrick drew strength from the majestic view of Kachemak Bay and pursued his passion for fly-fishing, finding solace and a sense of home on the tranquil waters of the Russian River in Cooper Landing. While Patrick was quiet in nature, his kind heart, sense of humor, deep appreciation for the natural world, and unwavering love for his family will always be remembered. Friends and loved ones will cherish his quick wit and other sentimental qualities that made him the beloved person he was. He is survived by his mother, Valerie Cashman of Salt Lake City, UT, and his children, Kaitlin Cashman Armstrong (Clifford, III) and grandson Akim of Anchorage, AK, Lauren Cashman (Julian Lake) of Santa Barbara, CA, and Patrick Cashman Jr. (PK Woo) of Juneau, AK, and his beloved pup, Phoebe, sisters Leslie Cashman, Shannon Sharp, Michelle Cashman, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Patrick is preceded in death by his father, Jack (John) Cashman, his brother John Cashman, and his brother-in-law Fred Sharp. A memorial service to honor Patrick and Sheila will be held at the Lakefront Hotel on June 8th 12 pm. Additionally, a Salt Lake Service will take place in July, with the date to be determined.
