Joan Hazel Grundhauser
October 22nd, 1936 - January 15th, 2023
October 22nd, 1936 - January 15th, 2023
In the early hours of January 15th, 2023, Joan Hazel Grundhauser finally joined her husband of 63 years, Ray Grundhauser (1931-2011). Joan was born and spent most of her youth in Eugene, Oregon. Joan and Ray met in Portland, Oregon at a bakery Joan worked at. Who knew that Ray's love of pastries would also fetch him his wife, but it did.
Joan and Ray moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1960 where Ray was a CPA and Joan a stay-at-home mother. Life took a little detour to Washington and California, but they eventually came back to Alaska which they so loved. Joan was a strong and supportive wife and mother who put her family first. She shuttled the kids to all of their various activities., helped coach when needed, sewed costumes, provided orange slices, and the biggest cheerleader for the kids. Her house was open to all the neighborhood kids and her baked cookies and bread were the highlight to all who visited.
Joan is preceded by her parents, Kenneth and Hazel Blanton, and her husband, Ray Grundhauser. She is survived by her four children, Kathryn (bf. John), Karl (Lynn), Fritzi, and Hans(Kris). Her grandchildren who brought her so much joy: Hunter,, Jill, Kacy, Mark, and Joseph. Her siblings: Marilyn McCall(Jim) and Doug Blanton (Pam) and their children. As well as various fur babies who she spoiled.
While the family left behind is saddened, they know she is now at peace and together again with her love. Mom, we will carry you in our hearts forever. Thank you for making us who we are today.
