Recuerdos

Susan M. Marshall, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on January 9, 2026, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. She was a cherished resident of Baxter Senior Living. Born to William H. and Annie M. Marshall on August 31, 1959, Susan grew up in Connecticut, living in Bloomfield, Enfield, Rocky Hill, Newington, Stamford, and Norwalk. She graduated from Rocky Hill High School in 1977 and continued her education at Eastern Connecticut State University, earning a bachelor's degree in social work.

.Susan began her career with NorthEast Utilities (Eversource) as a program coordinator in their Energy Assistance program in Fairfield County. Always eager to learn, she later obtained her Master’s degree at the New York Institute of Technology. During her more than 20 years at NorthEast Utilities, Susan made countless friends and touched many lives before her position was eliminated. Unafraid of new adventures, Susan followed her dream of living in Alaska after exploring various opportunities in Connecticut. With determination and courage, she packed her Jeep Liberty with her belongings and drove to Alaska—without a cell phone or CB radio—embarking on a journey that exemplified her independent spirit and zest for life.

Upon arriving in Alaska, Susan first settled in North Pole and worked at a local motel. She thenmoved to Fairbanks, where she served as a social worker with the Tanana Chiefs Conference, before eventually relocating to Juneau to become Program Coordinator for the EnergyAssistance Program with the State of Alaska. She retired from the state in 2025 after twodecades of dedicated service, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment tohelping others.

Susan was an avid traveler who explored numerous European countries, as well as Australia,New Zealand, and Hong Kong. After several visits to Alaska, she knew it was where she wantedto spend the rest of her life. She had hoped to embark on a worldwide cruise after retirement, but unfortunately, her health prevented her from fulfilling that dream. Susan's adventurousspirit and love of travel inspired those around her to embrace life's possibilities.

Susan is survived by her brother Robert Marshall of Enfield, CT; her nephew William Marshalland his family in Franklin, CT; and her niece Kelly Marshall of Hebron, CT. Susan also leaves herbest friend from High School, Patricia Faulkner of Vernon. She was predeceased by her parents,William and Annie Marshall of Duncan Falls, OH; her brother, William F. Marshall of Rocky Hill,CT; and her sister, Catherine Marshall. Susan chose to be cremated, and her ashes will bedivided among Ohio, Rocky Hill, and, in a fitting tribute to her adventurous soul, some will bereleased from a hot air balloon. A memorial service will be scheduled for the spring inConnecticut to celebrate her remarkable life.

Susan will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory lives on in the heartsof her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
