Vernon Flowers, 85 passed away March 21, 2018 at Providence Alaska Medical Center, Anchorage. He was surrounded by family all the time while he traveled on his new journey. Vern was the sixth of nine children born to Abner and Annie Flowers in Montrose, Colorado. He was born on April 27, 1933. His family life was centered around livestock and farming. At a very early age, Vern worked with teams of horses using hay equipment. He had a natural gift of working with animals, especially horses. Horses learned so fast under his guidance. Vern finished his education with the completion of the 8th grade. He was a self-taught auctioneer, plus a successful businessman. Vern had a gift of sensing an opportunity and then to act on it. Vern made many wise decisions during his lifetime. At the early age of 18, Vern married Vera Alexander. She being 17 years old of age. They had been married 65 years at the time of his passing. In the early years of their marriage, Vern and Vera farmed a 200 acre farm in Montrose, Colorado and he also traveled to many states to do livestock auctions, plus he and Vera did many farm auctions in the Uncompahgre Valley in Colorado. Vern was also the auctioneer for the Montrose Livestock Auction. Vern had a strong wish to go to Alaska. In August of 1967, Vern and Vera sold everything they owned at their own auction and with four babies in tow, headed to Alaska. Vern formed his own used car lot, "Wholesale Motors, Inc" in 1967 which was a prominent sight on 5th Avenue with many other used car lots. Vern formed his own real-estate company which he was broker of, Diamond Realty. Vern was especially proud of his International Building at the airport. One of Vern/s most special achievements of his life was finding and buying his own homestead at Willow, Alaska. In later years he would name it "Vera Lake Estates" after his wife, Vera. Vern was a special husband, father, and Super grandfather. Oh, how he loved his grandbabies. Vern had 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Vern is survived by his wife, Vera of 65 years, their four children, Diana Flowers, Wasilla, Carla Flowers, Marana, AZ, Bernard Flowers, Anchorage and Delmar Flowers, Anchorage. Vern is also survived by his sister, Luella Bellgardt, Montrose, CO and one brother, Larry Flowers, Payson, AZ. Per Vernons wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held this summer at their Vera Lake cabin. Our thanks to the nursing staff at Providence Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bird Treatment Center, 7800 King Street Anchorage, AK 99518
